Right now I'm seeing Helmuth as having knowledge beyond his years and an oddly strong interest in politics for someone his age. I believe this could become a problem later in the book because as it becomes more clear that the Nazis and Hitler are terrible, his opinions will become even stronger and he will speak out against the Nazi regime and As we all know they were cruel and strict against "traitors".
