Duval whips his head around and spears me with his intent gaze. "Have you received no orders from the convent?" he asks.

For fuck's sake, NO, she STILL hasn't received orders from the convent.

"What possible evidence do you have that he is trustworthy?"

None, except my own heart, and that is not nearly enough. "I assure you, my vision is clear, my lord."

Ok, good. Good.

turns the page

My wanting to trust Duval does not make him trustworthy.
And yet I feel in my heart that he is.

*facepalm*

Hmm ... a red herring or an inability to foreshadow properly? We shall see.

So now we've reached the point where the heroine has trouble doing the job she was supposedly made for because she's been lovestruck. Barf.

"Did the convent send you orders?"

I'm really getting sick of Duval saying this and/or accusing her of something underhanded. He wants her to trust him but then he blames her for every death, as if she's keeping things from him and doing whatever she wants (which she could and should totally do, but since she's not it's just annoying for Duval to keep saying the same things over and over again.)

Desperate to be away from here, I grab a rough woolen cloak from the bed and use a corner of it to wipe the wall clean as best I can.

Do I watch too much TV, or don't you think her first thought should be to find what the dude was looking for (most likely something she'd want to know) instead of trying to clean up blood? And I'm pretty sure the DEAD BODY is going to alert people that somebody died in that room, no?

My blood is singing in my veins, so happy am I to be doing my god's work.

Sigh.

Neither Duval nor the abbess can find fault with me for acting under her order.

This girl is good at finding loopholes, huh?

Angela I really liked this one but it has had mixed reviews. It seems you will either love it or hate it. I hope the former.

Shannon I'm actually about 75% done (I took this on the cruise) but I wanted to add it before I added more and more books to be CR shelf even though I started it last week.

At the moment, it's at a low 3 for me. I'm hoping it ends well.

rameau If only.

Angela Oh dear, seems I'm in the minority on this one. Oh well.

I don't think so. I dnf'd around 40% and kept waiting others to do the same but most reviews I've seen for this were positive.

Angela True, but I've also seen a lot of reviews which are middling or low.
Mine probably would have been lower if I'd read it at a different time but I found it to be a really good escapist book at the time and sometimes all I need is a bit of, well not fluff per se but a one where I don't have to think too much about it. If that makes sense.

It does. I just didn't want to read another romance dressed up in a ya novel. I wanted to read about assassiny, which was severely lacking in the first 40%.

Angela Yeah I get that. I wasn't even aware it was going to be heavily reliant on the romanace when I first started it otherwise I probably would never have picked it up as I don't often reads books like that, but I liked this one when normally I wouldn't have. Would have been so much better with more assassiny bits though, I agree there!

Shannon My main problem is the "my god wills it so I will do it with no questions asked." It's also reading like an HR but with a girl too young to be in an HR. I also don't like the way Duval treats her and how she lets him do it most of the time even though she's stronger now. I also think there is EXTREME repetition of words and phrases and I hate feeling like a book didn't have an editor. It really needed to be tightened up.

Ha. We agree on something! Hooray!

That didn't take too long.
