Dr. Lecter was sent to Memphis, Tennessee as promised. He told Senator Martin that name of Buffalo Bill is William Rubin. Mr. Crawford sent Clarice to Tennessee and he called Senator Martin to make a deal with her. While Clarice was in Memphis, she went to Catherine's house and searched it, finding disturbing pictures. That's where she met Senator Martin.

Another victim from a few years back had a bug in his throat as well. Jame Gumb, a transgender, has a well in his basement in which he has a person in there. Clarice went back to the mental hospital to talk to Dr. Lecter. Dr. Lecter told her the reason Buffalo Bill wants Catherine is because "he wants a vest with tits on it" (Harris 152)
