also, side note: if I dislike a book because I think it contains racism or homophobia, I am not personally attacking you. I'm telling people why I didn't like a book, not forcing everyone else to agree.

destiny ♡ howling libraries Yesss! Not sure why, when you say "I found this problematic", people translate it to, "everyone who reads this is a shitstain!" That's not what it means. Not if you're a logical human being, anyways. :/

Elle (ellexamines on TT & Substack) @Solomon thanks for being such a great friend!!

@Destiny no kidding! I'm not calling you out, I'm calling the book

Tova Same! I can express my feelings, but that does not mean that I hate it's fans. It's how I feel, and it's nothing personal.

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books I find a lot of projection in those posts. Not everyone, but an eerie projection lurks in some of those reactions.

@Latanya I'm actually a bit confused, what do you mean?

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books Maybe they see you finding problems with how they behave. Or, they don't want to get into a conversation because they feel ill-equipped. In other words, they take your reviews personally.

Elle (ellexamines on TT & Substack) Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, I feel like sometimes I'll talk about why I disliked a book and people get defensive about their interest in it. I get the instinct and don't blame those people, but sometimes they get rude, and that always sucks

they get rude simply because they can't accept that what they like is flawed and problematic. unfortunately, some people refuse to learn and become educated just because they don't want to see their favorites are bad.
