Sword of Shanara is a blatant ripoff -- albeit, with nowhere near the same mastery of the English language -- of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy -- I'm surprised Brooks hasn't been sued by Tolkien's estate!
(meh) Two stars.
Elfstones of Shannara demonstrates the growth of a writer possible when given a second chance, time, and a lot of editorial assistance.
Good ending. Three stars.
