- been thinking about how this was written during the rise of the nazi party and despite hesse being criticized for being apolitical, i think this book wouldn't have been written under any other circumstance
- it does however highlight hesse's blindspot, which imo, doesn't actually bother me for this particular novel since it actually helps support the thesis
