- been thinking about how this was written during the rise of the nazi party and despite hesse being criticized for being apolitical, i think this book wouldn't have been written under any other circumstance
- it does however highlight hesse's blindspot, which imo, doesn't actually bother me for this particular novel since it actually helps support the thesis

- prologue was a bit of an infodump though the world-building was intriguing
- the idea of the glass bead game and their version of academia is very western. curious to see if this gets deconstructed
- hesse is so hit or miss for me. i think this one might be better but we'll see
