‘We’re going to die and not even know. We’ll never know, and all this meaninglessness will just go on and on and on. And we won’t any longer be witness to it. We won’t have even a little bit of power to give meaning to it in our minds. We’ll just be gone, dead, dead, dead, without ever knowing!’ Banger.

I forgot how fascinating a character Nicki is. Makes his fate all the more depressing. Alas.

Im surprised Lestat is so chummy even after the lies Louis told. But I suppose love was always easier for him

So Louis’ a bit of a liar, ah well, a little embellishment here or there doesn’t hurt. But yeah, Akasha is awake and has her new king. Overall, this book is just as good as the first, perhaps better. Lestat is such a mouthy charismatic brat you can’t hate him. And all the other characters, Marius, Gabrielle, even that twat Armand, all great characters in their own right. Onto Queen of the Damned.

The entire mythos Anne Rice created for her vampires is fascinating. It’s a real shame she never wrote a novel in the time of Akasha and Enkil or perhaps even a novel from Enkil’s perspective. We know Akasha from Queen of the Damned but Enkil? He’s just her eternal stone guardian with no personality of his own. And *SPOILERS*
Akasha slays him at the end of this very book. Ah dreams.

It’s sad to see Gabrielle go, but she was always a wild creature. Not one to pretend like Lestat, but still bittersweet nonetheless. But Marius is here now and some interesting stuff is coming

Now we’re learning about Armand, my least favorite character. But his sire is one of my favorites, dear Marius who we’ll be seeing shortly I suspect.

I didn’t think I could hate Armand anymore than I already did. I forgot how much of a childish impotent character he really is. Not impotent power wise, but just an impotent being. He’s such a hypocrite too but that could be said for all vampires. But Nicki’s a vampire now, which isn’t a good thing from what I remember. But we’ll see how that goes.

Seeing Lestat and Nicki being pulled further and further apart is not pleasant, but I like the similarities to Louis and his transformation. And now Gabrielle, another of my favorites has been bestowed with the Dark Gift. I think we’re coming on Armand and his satanic cult of vampires here soon, so that should be fun.
