What is going on in Moscow is inconceivable to the mind of man. Seven traders from the Sukharevka Market have already been arrested for spreading rumours about the end of the world to be brought upon us by the Bolsheviks.

And what is freedom? Smoke, mirage, fiction ... the raving of those unhappy-democrats...

From somewhere above and to the side came the sound of choral singing, softened by ceilings and carpets.

I shan't even try to understand what it's all about — I won't understand anyway.

Oh, no, you don't! No. There's a uniformed porter at the door. And there's nothing worse than that in the whole world. Many times more dangerous than a janitor. An altogether loathsome breed. More repulsive even than cats.

There's one typist, for instance, gets a category 9 salary of 45 roubles and if you must know her lover gives her Persian thread stockings. But what she has to put up with for those stockings! He doesn't do it the normal way but subjects her to French-style lovemaking.

Mark André Thank you, Rida! Nice to hear from you.
I think it might be a line from a Mozart opera, but I’m not sure, or even why I think that.

Mark André Thank you, Bam! Nice to hear from you.
Not quite as lively as I was hoping for. We’ll see?

Mark André Thank you, Piyangie! Jsiva! and Antun.
I’m not sure what the quote has to do with the rest of the story, but it struck me, in that special spot, so I posted it.🙂

Mark André Thank you, Laura! Thank you, Rafaela! Very nice to meet you.
I’m a big fan of Professor Bulgakov: loving both Master & Margarita and Black Snow but this one doesn’t have the same dark comedy to it. At least not yet. I’m making a special effort because I abhor cruelty to animals.

Fernando What a great novel you are reading...

Thanks, Fernando—I haven’t yet come across the usual Bulgakov sparkled I was expecting, but we’ll keep moving anyway. Hopefully ...

Fernando You're right, it's not The Master and Margarita, but this man was a hell of a writer. I strongly suggest you his Morphine and other tales and specially his letters to Stalin.

I agree. I think he’s great. Very unique. Things are picking up. I just read the scene where the housing committee comes to visit. Thanks for the rec’s. Very cool.✌️

Fernando The fatal eggs, The white guard, his theatre plays...

Mark André Thank you, Vanitha!
I keep thinking it is a line from some opera. Maybe Aida?
