Once again more questions than answers. There had been another race born before the Cielcin and they worshipped and followed the Watchers but because they didn’t achieve their objective they killed themselves. How did they fail? Was it really the same dead god who whispered to Elu? Were they alive? Did they really communicate with Hadrian through his dreams?

So there’s a possibility that Syriani is looking for the gods who could be alive. I wonder what he’ll do if he does. Part of me believes he’s arrogant enough to take that god’s place however it takes. At this point, I don’t even know if Hadrian would make it out alive.

It just goes to show that as primitive and underdeveloped the Cielcin seem, they seem to have some similarities with humanity in how they operate. There’s something religious about the gods that they worship, that Syriani’s motivations rely on his faith that he would ascend to godhood because his gods serve the truth and they can only made truth by eradicating lies like humanity.

I am gettired tired of Hadrian suffering since Syriana likes playing with his food and in the guise that he honestly believes that his purpose serves the truth. At this point, I can’t wait for this to be over. Not in a bad way, just need a mood shift and I still don’t believe his entire company is dead.

I appreciate that certain motivations were made clear. That Syriani wants to ascend into godhood and he can only do that by destroying the Quiet because the Quiet relies on the survival of humanity. Hadrian serves as the instrument the closest to destroy the Cielcin. It’s impressive how the Cielcin have evolved since the first book and how I’m learning about them just as much as Hadrian.

Do I even want to finish reading this quickly? I know the series can’t always be the main character winning all the time, three books were spent with him triumphant or at least managed to succeed, I am reading about him receiving the other end, but it’s insufferable seeing Urbaine and Severine gloat. Their discourse if their beliefs is interesting though.

Much like Hadrian, I don’t believe that his crew is dead. From a technicality, I doubt the writer would just announce their deaths in passing as a result of him getting captured. Moreover, it’s interesting getting more answers, that it seems like what the Cielcin worships rivals the Quiet and they happen to be an obstacle to their ascension to godhood as well as destroying the Empire.
