The going is slow because my mother and I have been watching every episode of the 1990s sitcom Step by Step while she's on summer vacation from teaching kindergarten, but as time permits I will plunge ahead on this book and try to get more reading done. The world was lucky to have decades of Gary Paulsen novels to inform our minds and hearts.

Cover art by Barry Jones, a fairly intense closeup portrayal of the sheep under John's Barron's care. The Fourteenth Summer is actually the UK rendering of Gary Paulsen's classic Western The Haymeadow, and I'm curious what if any the noticeable differences will be.
