The family, specifically the children, settling into the new house and land brings back memories of my childhood: exploring in the woods, creating magical worlds using sticks, flowers, trees, natural formations of rocks and bushes imagined into a home or castle.
I’m struck by Tomás’s desire to go back in time while Enda wants to move toward teaching, having a career.
This book would be a great fall read!

Part 1: Once Liam went into the copse that changes Tomás, I thought the plot was going to be more magical realism: faeries, changelings, etc. Then came the purging of memories from The Great Hunger, which TBH I know little about. IMO the plot’s pace ebbs and flows. Part 2 goes way back in time, picks back up threads of magical realism, and paces better back to Liam’s timeline.
