when i was about sixteen a YA author visiting my school told me to read “raise high the roof beam, carpenters” and i’ve only just now gone and done it after finding this hardcover by accident and getting drawn in by the opening paragraphs. you were right, david; thanks for that. am i the last person on the planet to find out that salinger is really funny?
