Lovely. There's finally another (named) female character, yet she's "hostile" to the heroine. No matter how "badass" of a female character Allie may turn out to be, this book won't win any points with me if she's the only "girl that matters" in the story.

I...don't know what to say. That development just proved how "worthless" the one other (most mentioned) female character in this novel was, and that pisses me off to no end.

*sigh* Now this Allie-slaying-rabids development simply reminds me of the Saya-slaying-chiropterans bits in the Blood anime franchise.

"If I see you again, I'll kill you." - Well, that line just reminded me of the parting scene between two characters at the end of part one of the Vampire Knight manga...

You know, I sometimes found myself surprised by the developments in the Iron Fey books, but I'm not experiencing any of that with this book. I don't know. All of it's just a bit too obvious in the twist department for my liking.

Well, everything I feared about Ruth's characterization is coming true: she's the "bitch" stereotype who hates the heroine for no other reason that just being a seeming rival for a boy's affections. (This stereotype needs to die in YA because other media already have enough petty girl-hates-girl drama.)

Also, Zeke's last name is "Crosse"? Okay, now I definitely don't feel stupid for comparing some parts of this story to Vampire Knight since "Cross" was the last name of a few characters (Yuki and Kaien) in VK.

This vampire hierarchy reminds me suspiciously of the one in the manga Vampire Knight.

Andrea This is a trend I've become more sensitive to over the years. I once was glad just for a girl character, any girl character. Then girl characters who got to Do Stuff. But now I'm wary of lone exceptional girls and no other "females of worth".

Andrea Is there a female equivalent of the word "bromance"? [I seem to be writing a bromance right now, except with girls...]

Andrea Tch - such a clunky sounding word - reads more like tragedy. I'll call mine a galmance. :)

Andrea It occurs to me that "Thelma and Louise" _is_ a womance. Womance is a fantastic term for "female friendship which leads to tragedy".

Galmance is more suited to "female friendship leads to snorts of laughter and epic stands".

Andrea The Darkangel Trilogy is another of that ilk - but then, so are a lot of male-protagonist Greek epics, and things like Beowulf. I guess it all depends on where you choose to end your story.

Marie This is something that's been bugging me lately; especially in visual media it's one cool, sexy woman, and then all those stupid shallow girls: every show I watch, practically.

But I just caught Rizzoli and Isles, and that's actually a pretty fantastic 'galmance' (in the few episodes I've seen), if that helps.
