"Difference"

The difference between
a boy and a man
is one makes excuses,
the other makes plans.

You called it "lost feelings,"
I call it lack of a backbone.
You couldn't handle a future,
so you just settled for alone.

You wanted my loyalty
without earning the right.
Wanted someone to love you,
but gave up before our first night.

A boy burns bridges,
then blames the match.
A man owns his choices—
you can't even imagine doing that.

You wanted attention,
I chased growth.
Now you're just a chapter,
I'm the whole damn book.

You fumbled a diamond
looking for something that glitters.
Now all my "what ifs"
just hit a little more bitter.

You mistook confidence
for something you could replace.
Now you'll search for my shadow
in every familiar place.

The difference?
I never needed revenge.
Time writes better punchlines
than I could ever invent.

Every mask slips.
Every lie cracks.
Every shortcut
circles back.

Funny how
what you throw away...
You won't never ever
get back....

A girl like me wouldn’t do that
A girl like me wouldnt scream
She wouldn’t light the match
Or dose the walls in kerosene

She wouldn’t think those thoughts
Wouldn’t tell those lies
She wouldn’t hide her pain
She would try to make it right

A girl like me wouldnt burn
A girl like me wouldnt leave
She would tell someone about it
Wouldn’t she?

A girl like me has feelings
A girl like me needs care
She has to be more than polished
You can’t just brush her hair

Beauty is superficial
It can be painted on
To cover up the cracks
Like a mask to be put on

A girl like me is human
A human that needs care
So tell me,
What kind of girl in under there?

In my corner
Cold to the bone

The people file by
Like fish in a stream
They don’t hear me cry
They only hear the scream

They only care
When it’s to late
Only dispute

For I’m always alone

The Mask

My mask is pretty
It’s painted and sanded
It’s put together and professional
My mask is my reputation
I must uphold it

I’ve always had a mask
So I blend in
I have friends
I am perfect for them

I get the good grades
I tell the good jokes and laugh loudly
I fit in

My mask changes
Shifts like a chameleon
To fit my environment

My mask has been on so long
It has melted to my face
Under the heat for their gazes

Sometimes I wonder if it’s gone
If somehow I lost my mask
If somehow, this is the real me

But how do I tell?
How do I take off a mask
That I don’t even know is there?
Where does my mask end
And where do I begin?
