I am trying so hard because it's for book club and the Author will be doing a Q&A at our August meeting.

You can tell the author is a short story writer and it shows in all the worst ways. Every moment in the book drags. Pages of tangents. Dense and gorgeous prose that meanders you through a stunning field of imagery while the muddy ground grasps at your feet, forcing you to stare until you lose the plot entirely.
