Halfway through the book, I still have no clue about any of the characters’ mindsets or what motivates their actions. We’re constantly told they’re under the professor’s influence, yet the professor himself is practically invisible. Aside from a few classroom scenes, he’s barely present, which makes the whole premise hard to buy.
