I would call this more akin to Wheel of Time than lotr—the mythology presented here is equally sprawling, yet not as easy to delve into. This could be a translation issue (can't find an original copy so this is speculation, for now.) It could also just be badly written prose about a well-designed magical reality.

Will stick with it for at least the first chapter.
