For example, Highet analyzes the story of Candide and says it has a "elementary pattern of constant change and violent contrast, which can scarcely be called a pattern at all" (Highet 10). This is a clear example of analyzing satirical literature.

The most significant nonfiction technique in my book, is the purpose, which is to inform readers all about satire, yet also how it connect with the world, which is why it is significant! If the speaker had been about a completely different topic, the novel would lose it's main purpose, which was focusing on the different types of satire. (Continued on next post)

The author establishes an ethical appeal through the use of presenting satires that are based off of tragedies. He does this by intentionally listing dictators like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini to show how the horrendous acts done by these dictators have caused people to turn their sadness "can be satirized" (Highet 23). This helps further the purpose because it shows to what extremity people will go through!
