So I have to stop reading this book. As I’ve already said, EH’s use of literal translations of Spanish into English for his dialogue drives me mad. That ridiculous stilted English makes the dialogue between and among people fighting for justice and freedom virtually passionless. And there’s more about the book I don’t like. But I’m not DNF’g the thing. At least for now. Who knows if I’ll finish it.

Why oh why did Hemingway write the dialogue spoken Spanish by his characters in literally translated English for his readers??? Just ridiculous…
