A Clash of Kings: I have to say that I had to force myself through this a little. The book starts out interesting enough, but then loses itself in various plotlines. In none of them is happening much. That and certain unlucky POV choices had me thinking that less pages would've been more in this case. The last 150 to 200 pages become exciting again and are worth the read, though. 3.5 stars

A Storm of Swords: This book read tremendously better than the second book or even the first one. There was actually happening a lot of stuff and there were some interesting new POV characters. Even so, GRRM still spreads the plot on too many pages, e.g. there's an 10-something pages long epilogue about a completely irrelevant character, just for one key-scene that happens on the last page. An editor would've helped.

A Game of Thrones: The book is very close to the TV show (or vice versa^^) and I liked it a lot. It reads easily and quickly enough, but the writing isn't exactly high literature. The story is what does it. As for the gratuitous sex I've seen some people complain about - there is none. At least in the first volume there are barely more than 2 sex scenes and they're nowhere near explicit. I can't wait to read on!
