I deeply dislike the main MC, Kit. What a selfish POS. His inability to recognize that other people around him need his presence in the wake of their grief is so incredibly selfish. Drink all you want buddy, I'll pour you a shot!
But to abandon everyone that cares about you.. If you actually gave a damn about anyone, you'd make a modicum of effort. Y'know, because you CARE. Nope, not him. Only his feelings matter.

I fear this may be one of those books that everyone loves and I find somewhat..meh. But grief has never been a particularly interesting subject to me, especially when an MC spends the bulk of the novel wallowing, which eventually begins to read as extremely selfish behavior. We get it, you're sad, life sucks.. so let's figure out how to express that for 16 chapters..!!

100% agree, Kit is the bearer of all guilt, grief and whatever. Bowen also needed to process that, but alas its like he didn't even lost his brother

Right? Supposedly Kit loooves Bowen, but he sure as hell doesn't care that Bowen lost his brother. I could not be bothered to care about someone that didn't feel the need to check in with me after I lost MY twin. Fuck that guy. Grief takes many forms, but to completely disregard the 'love of your life' like that.. yeah, I still hate Kit even after finishing the book.
I feel ya 🩷 the last 20-30% drove me nuts
