I've just finished Chapter 4, Jack Burden's journey into his family's past which he plans on using for his dissertation, but abandons. Still incredibly good. Does one abandon the past when one cannot comprehend it?

This novel is one of the best. Not one time has the narrative slackened or lost interest. Jack Burden is one of the greatest narrators whose ever told a story.

Never read this before. The characterization, the style, and the first person narrator journalist are pretty good.
