I think my reading experience is suffering from all the other Mars stories and current Mars research and science that I’ve been exposed to before reading it. The opening was so intense and the subsequent section intriguing but the science feels dated, which is not the book’s fault. I shall have to mentally adjust to “this is both what was known and also fiction”.

The story is coming together, we are back to the beginning, and ultimately the reason for a lot of things. Hiroko is weirder than I thought.

It’s the way that one relationship annoys me. I was disgusted to see it even though I knew it would for the plot. And some of John’s musings. Of course the Scandinavians are fascinating and intelligent but the “Moslems” are impenetrable. Except to Frank. What a punk this guy is.

The next problem I’m having is simply that it’s been so long that I’ve read a physical book that this is tough. The story is still interesting. That last scene was quite wild and some things definitely have to be explained.
