Okay the flashbacks paid off. I still feel their placement in the book could have been better positioned to not halt the pacing. But the reveals did a great job of redirecting my interest and surprising me. Now i’m nearly back to the present moment and holy shit am I excited

As a reader who appreciates momentum, the flashbacks filling in amnesia gaps has cut my earlier appetite for devouring each new chapter. Maybe it’s because the past experiences of the protagonist aren’t all that more pleasant than the current life she lives. It’s a hard pill to swallow that some people’s struggles are incessant but it’s a reminder that stability is earned not given
