This is a brilliant collection, edgier than Cheever and more East Coast than Carver. Yates captures voice, doubt, and disappointment in perfect detail.

Valérie Barca just read my first Yates, revolutionary road, and LOVED it! feeling "on the young side of middle age" myself! How are the short stories?

Rambling Raconteur They have that same elegiac tone as Revolutionary Road, but the characterization is not as rich as in the novel. He shows many different slices of life in the stories: children, young adults, older characters, and this paints a strong picture.
