I'm not really buying the romance between these two.

I suspect I know what is wrong with the Emperor. Wonder if that is historical fact or a way for the author to explain the emperor having no children.

How does she have time to tie on her sandals when these men are menacing her the edge of a ravine? I can't imagine they just stood there and thought "oh look she is totally distracted and helpless putting her shoes on let's just politely wait here for her to finish before we attack her".
