Love the part where it is made clear to the reader that the narrator is NOT the author. the author himself pops up saying' hi, this is Orhan Pamuk" and then offers his reasons for writing the story in the first person.

Getting very long-winded but provides a good cultural/social history of Istanbul in the 70's and 80's. Surely we're not meant to take this Kamal character seriously. But I've known men who've spent their whole lives chasing an unattainable woman, so maybe..
