The author skillfully blends high literature language with crass sexual imagery, creating an intriguing contrast. While his other books don’t feature explicit sex, by choice, this one likely belongs to a a different genre, I think. Today’s read revealed many fascinating unknown facts. Darian’s character is mildly annoying but bearable. I’m still enjoying the book.

There’s not a lot of story here. It’s mainly a study of one character. It also didn’t feel that deep. Characters are not fully developed, including the main one. I can see that the author is new to this. Despite all of that it has heart. I guess that’s all I need. The tattoo reveal scene was very effective. Made me emotional. I think I’m in epilogue, but looks like a long one. I am looking forward to it.

I can see Alexis Hall’s writing from the Boyfriend Material series, but it’s not entirely the same. He’s improved a lot in the 20 years between these books. I still enjoy it. Another similarity is the posh, closed-off, stubborn man falling in love with a lovable, lower-class, funny guy. The main character struggles to accept that he deserves love. Also, the story just turned a corner. I’m invested in this.
