Update 6
I think the over all theme of this story is personal growth. We watch and see how the Military affects Henry. We see how his ignorance seems to fade, and his honor appears through many hardships. throughout the story we see his emotions, and reactions to things change, and in the end he is a better person, because of all the sacrifices, and hard things he has done.

The Red Badge of courage took place during the Civil War. The Civil War was a battle between the northern, and southern states. The battle was over a lot of issues, which makes the over all motive of the war unclear. A lot of good things happened because of the civil war, such as slavery being abolished, and reconstruction. The setting gives us an overall summary of what the soldiers were feeling.

From reading the first chapter of the books I see that it is third person limited. Henry fleming is one of the main characters. He has a very romanticizes look on war. Wilson is the "Loud Soldier" and he is also Flemings friend. He seemed to me to be fairly cocky. Wilson also helped fleming with his injury. There is also Jim Conklin the "tall soldier". He is a very kind guy, and a fun guy.
