Starting this book, I am noticing already several disadvantages of inner-city students (gifted or otherwise). Living below the poverty line paired with a lack of access to advanced classes and gang violence makes it difficult to pursue an education. Something that stood out to me especially was the fact that "[p]reparing for the SATs was a luxury [honors students] could not afford" (Corwin 5).
