It’s honestly so fuckin depressing that I can’t contemplate what a 4th dimension would look like in my brain. I mean the concept of a tesseract just pisses me off so bad.

In this one Sagan talks about a bouncing universe where no information passes through the crunch and expansion. Depressing

Carl Sagan’s infatuation with the stars really is contagious. The way he paints the lives of the stars, their cosmic kitchen, our origins. He makes it so accessible and interesting. He does kind of start to yap after a while and then seems at a loss how to end the chapter, talking about the sun in almost a worship kinda way lol but great chapter anyways

So fun seeing Sagan talk about the voyager 1 floating through the cosmic seas visiting and getting to know the Galilean satellites

Very interesting to learn about what we have attempted with mars. Lowell’s misunderstanding of potential canals and how that would be the mission we would need to undertake in a theoretical mars colonization and terraformation

Earth is really the GOAT man.
Reading this chapter reminds me of that planet I heard of observed that is potentially completely and entirely covered in a thick shell of ice. I guess Venus is that way to that theoretical inhabitants could not realistically leave that planet.
It makes me wonder about our own galaxy and if/when we could leave it

There’s a lot of interesting history in this chapter regarding Newton and Kepler as well as others. Sagan does a great job at explain astronomical concepts in a simple way.
I also find it so refreshing how, in a very pragmatic way, he refers to all humans as all our ancestors.
He also really hated astrology.

Learned a little biology, sci-fi and Japanese mythos. Fun chapter but very wordy on the DNA stuff that is not my field of expertise or interest
