Ann Lockton is selfish. After Ruth had a seizure, she wanted to sell her because she thinks she is a devil. If Ms. Lockton sold Ruth, Ruth would not be with Isabel anymore. Ann said " The child's curse will poison us all. I want her sold, Elihu, sold today"(95). This proves that Ms. Lockton did not care if Ruth and Isabel were split up.

Isabel is caring to her sister. When she saw tears in Ruth's eyes and how quickly she responded to Miss. Lockton she was concerned. Isabel said " why were you crying in the parlor today, before Becky came in? Did Madam hurt you"(62). This shows Isabel was attentive on why her sister was crying. Like Katniss in the Huger games, they both care for their younger sister. Therefore, Isabel is caring towards Ruth.
