It appears that Johnnie killed Terl before the sabotage was sent to Psychlo. Also he went to rescue the girls but their cage was open and saw Char dead with Christie’s knife in him.

83 Scotts recruited by Johnny to go to America and learn the “monster” machines and hopefully fight back against them. 50 recruits, 1 elected leader, clan reps, older women who would care for the men, a pastor, some teachers / scholars, someone to document everything, 3 men who could be mistaken for Johnny, etc. = 83.
