Glotka goes to Moriva who is Sult’s enemy and tells him of the pickle he finds himself trapped in. M says he will help if G is able to get a signed confession of treason from S.

G goes to visit Ardee and complains about his situation to her in loose terms and she says she would find a third suitor that would help him take out the first two

Glotka is torturing his dentist who he knows his innocent trying to get him to confessed being a spy. He gets the confession by showing him a bucket filled to the brim with pulled teeth. Sult enters the room and insinuates that Glotka might have left the head of the mercha guild in Dogasta alive and it’s curious that he had enough money to make everything work.

His strength lessens. Logen works his arm free and plunges the word through F’s tattooed stomach and out the other side. The tattoos heal around the blade but his other side does not. The witch was adding to his strength somehow and with her gone he is less.

L9, victorious, walks up the ramparts and tosses Bethod over after pummeling his face to mush.

West at some point unclipped one of the feareds buckles

Logen had been fighting the fear while this was happening. He chopped of the tattooed arm and plunged the makers blade through the tattooed portion of his head. The feared stumbled but then reattached his arm and pulled the sword from his skull. Shaking his head as if dizzy. The bloody nine emerges and is making good progress when the two enter an embrace. F is trying to crush L9 in a bear hug but suddenly…

Dogman grim and Dow are hunting the witch in the other side of the wall. Dogman follows his nose to a sweat moldy smell where he finds the witch. Dow flanks the rear and d&g go up the middle. She is chanting over a bubbling cauldron. Hearing them creep up on her she orders them to stop and they obey. She tells D to stab G through the heart and he starts to do so when Dows ax plunges through her skull

Will the makers sword make a difference in this fight?
Ironically this is what Bethod wanted all the way back in the first book. When Jazel jokingly agreed before one of the closed counsel shut down the idea

Logen and west prepare for the fight against the feared. L tells west he wants his men holding the shields on his side as he is not sure who he can’t trust amongst the northmen. (Dogman, grim, and Dow are on a side quest sneaking into the city)
The fight starts, Logen feels outmatched by the size and quickness of F despite him choosing armor instead of a weapon. The armor covers the non tattooed side of his body

In the closed consul meeting the members discuss the odds they have against the gurkish army. They expect the G’s fielded upwards of 50k men. At the ready they about 3k with wests army more the a months march away providing backup. B wants them to concentrate in the easier to defend interior wall, J having a sense of the people’s feeling rejects it
His wife and maids try to leave but he angrily denies them

Ferro leads a trap for the girlish scouts. They keep one alive and he tells them that there are thousands coming. But he doesn’t know the route they will take. Ferro stabs him in the heart.

West learns about the gurkish and starts the process of leaving. Logen asks him to wait a day so he can fuel the feared. Bethod tells Logen he can only blame himself for what has happened. He bloodlust brought on this war
