WOAHHHHH okay alllllll of the differences between the book and Dune Part Two just hit in that single chapter and i actually prefer what the movie does here, but this version of the events is INSANE.

seeing Paul actively fearing who he might become if his visions come true is so insane to me, like idk how people read this and came away from it thinking Paul is a hero after who he becomes even just by the end of this book.

the farther i get into this book, the easier it gets to just absolutely fly through it. it gets a bit dense quite often but i think usually in a good way

i have now gotten in arguments with people who wondered why someone who loves the books would be fine with the Villeneuve movies and im like. honestly the stuff they cut from the story for the movies makes total sense to cut. i’m super looking forward to how things change in the second half because i’ve heard the atory is even improved in the films.

Baron Harkonnen made a weird nasty rape comment about drugging a slave so he wouldn’t have to wrestle with him, and it led me down a rabbithole of finding out Frank Herbert was a raging homophobe LMAO it hasn’t fully ruined the book for me or anything but it definitely puts some things into perspective for me.

but as for the book itself, i’m loving the shit out of this now and i’m coming to appreciate the politicking a lot more as it goes along.

as i read through this, i understand the people who prefer the David Lynch Dune film from the 80s over the Villeneuve films less and less. the new adaptations do such a better job letting the story breathe and not just turning it into a ridiculous action film. they properly reflect the slow-burn politicking of the book perfectly, AND capture the action perfectly too. neither gets sacrificed for the other.
