- rotterdam is the second largest city in the netherlands, and also houses europe’s largest seaport (almost 40km!) which is crucial for global trade
- in 1941, nazis opened the liro bank on sarphatistraat (until the end of the war, this street was called muiderschans” to rob dutch jews of their wages and valuables (325-455 million guilders stolen!)
