Reading about the societal setup that made pre-school education (and Sesame Street) is completely depressing, anti-poor and anti-Black American as it is.

Also, educator big-wigs made it to the 1960s without even talking about Montessori (1920s) even as an influence?

It's a book that is full of information. I'm frustrated with the information, not necessarily the book.

Just read about all of the preparation that went into the creation of Sesame Street. There is a 4-part model: 1) the interaction of receptive television producers and child science experts 2) creation of specific & age appropriate curriculum 3) research to shape the program directly 4) independent measurement of children's learning

I'm trying to read this book. It's both insanely fascinating and truly heartbreaking at the racism that the author describes. He doesn't describe it directly (which can also be a problem of not facing the music, señor) but it is implied by actions. Truly heartbreaking.

Reading about tv time slots that played a lot of tv shows aimed at children (after school & Saturday mornings).

Advertisers took advantage that parents were often not watching the kids shows with their kids and marketed directly to them. They STILL do this though, right?
