Just like humans over time have grown to not need the appendix, and other parts of the body; the author HG Wells inferenced in the book that humans would one day lose the need for hair, certain senses, or even eating altogether. As bold as these claims may be, they are being demonstrated through the Martians, and comparisons are being made to humans… that we (the humans in the book) may not b that far from Martians

Me & my buddy reader Mr Ron Jay have finished the first section to this two part Martian extravaganza. I know a lot of people hear this title & think of the Tom Cruise rendition of this story, but oh my gosh the original is so much better. If you’ve never read this book, and enjoy Sci-Fi, you really should check it out! We’ve been taking it slowly for the sake of fluidity, but i probably could’ve read in 1 sit

Our characters are unknowingly being sequestered, or pushed towards London by the Martian killing machines, the Tripods. As this story continues to get darker and darker, i’m almost worried they aren’t going to make it…. Me and my buddy reader Mr Ron Jay are nearing the second section of this book as it’s split in two. One chapter away from that switch, i’m interested to see how this martian story divulges!

The amount of literary & rhetorical devices used in these last few chapters has blossomed this book into a true triumph in my eyes. Not saying it wasn’t in the previous chapters, but insanely good writing, & it picked up as the chapters continued. Tons of secondary meanings, & underlying morals in this Martian invasion. I’ve went on a tangent to my buddy reader Mr Ron that the author is a time traveler lol

“Every now and then a haze of smoke from some nearer conflagration drove across the window and hid the Martian shapes. I could not see what they were doing, nor the clear form of them, nor recognize the black objects they were busied upon. Neither could i see the the nearer fire, though the reflections of it danced on the wall and ceiling of the study. A sharp resinous twang of burning was in the air.”

“ And this thing I saw! How can I describe it? A monstrous tripod, higher than many houses, striding over the young pine trees, and smashing them aside in it’s career; a walking engine of glittering metal, striding now across the heather; articulate ropes of steel dangling from it, and the clattering tumult of its passage mingling with the riot of the thunder.” Wow…. mind you this was written in 1898… how?

“It is still a matter of wonder how the Martians are able to slay men so swiftly & silently. Many think that in some way they are able to generate an intense heat in a chamber of practically absolute nonconductivity. This intense heat they project in a parallel beam against any object they choose by means of polished parabolic mirror of unknown composition, much as the parabolic mirror of lighthouse projects”

Ah this book is gonna be so fun i’m loving it already. 🛸👽 “With infinite complacency, men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their insurance of their empire over matter.” Us humans are so set on being the “top of the food chain” so to speak…. who knows when the Martians might give you a tumultuous run for our terrestrial money. Me and Mr Ron Jay are reading away!

Well i’ve embarked on my first buddy read with a newly fond friend I found on here, Mr Ron Jay. We have decided to take on this pioneering Sci Fi story on together! Probably 2 chapters at a time every day or two days, whatever our paces can manage. The reason this version of the book has no cover photo on goodreads is because (i think) we got a newer edition, doesn’t change the experience none for me :) 🛸

I once had an audio/music version of this. It was narrated by Richard Burton. Great music as well.

Ryan wrote: "I once had an audio/music version of this. It was narrated by Richard Burton. Great music as well."When i started this book awhile back i was looking for an audiobook to read along with. I never found any official ones, so i went to youtube for an unofficial audiobook and found one that sufficed. But this music + story type of audiobook you speak of would’ve been nice. My library must’ve not had this audio you speak of.
It was on an LP and was made in the 1970s.Google War of the Worlds album with Richard Burton as narrator
