I should explain, for anyone who may be interested, that the only reason I'm reading Xenophon is because when I was researching a possible review of Andre Norton's SF novel Star Rangers the Anabasis was suggested as a possible influence. I had always thought that Norton's own opinion was that she based her book on the history of the Roman Empire's final years. Go back to the sources, someone once told me, hoping that I had some intellectual ability.
