honestly so real. now I don’t fault people who got into reading because of booktok, but so much of booktok hypes up things that shouldn’t even be considered literature. like, straight up smut is NOT literature guys, it’s just p0rn on paper, and it’s not healthy to read it all the time. where did the yearning go? the kind of romance that can make you giggle just because they looked each others way? where did the deep and meaningful prose go? when did we stop pondering life in the form of writing books?

I enjoy a lot of the books from booktok, but THERE IS A LINE Y’ALL

Sure, they’re popular for a reason, but that reason is also why other books (that deserve it) aren’t being read or sold and sometimes even published in the first place.

May be hypocritical coming from me though as a YA Fantasy author

bro it sucks so much seeing so many ai generated stories like cmon…the whole point of me reading is to escape into a human made world, not ai stolen words…and like so many people have started reading bc of booktok and say it’s a hobby when in reality they only read since it’s “trendy” 😮‍💨 100% agree…

jaycee ann YES OH MY GOSH!!!!! like im glad booktok has given readers a platform to connect w each other, but the tiktokifcation of literature has making it all ab tropes and quotes instead of actual romance & slow burn!!!

the addition of tropes like i swear... stop spamming tropes in books i cant 😭 i admit i love a good enemies to lovers or a slow burn, but stop advertising books that dont fit them. you dont have to make a book filled with popular tropes to make it good i swear 😓
