Thanks to a YouTube video that was randomly suggested to me (I *think* the video topic is too specific to have been a result of my phone “listening”/algorithm), I now know the exact issue with this book and honestly I’m surprised it was so acclaimed. It’s also even harder to read now because I can’t help but notice the major writing flaw - it’s constant throughout. Will share more in my final review.

Plot finally started to pick up a little around page 230. A lot of repeated framing - things about certain characters are mentioned multiple times unnecessarily. Also, some inconsistencies with time/culture.

I don’t know how I’m already on page 122- not much has happened and I’m having a hard time not being distracted by the ridiculous way the author wrote the way these teenagers speak and think. It’s giving me flashes of “A Gate at the Stairs”, which also relied heavily on ridiculous and unrealistic mental asides.
