Fralie's birth scene nearly brought me to tears, you really learn to care about the people of the Mamutoi once you spend an entire winter with them. This novel is ripe with possibilities for Ayla - staying with the Mamutoi and starting a family with Ranec, following Jonadalar back to the Zelandonii, going to the Clan summer gathering and fetching Durc - all the while still functioning as an encyclopedia for the time.

Ayla toying with the idea of going to the clan summer gathering and fetching Dirk to live with her and the Mamutoi sounds infinitly like something I'd love to read!

I love how the manners of the Mamutoi are explored and compared to the Clan's. And her previous lesson in writing(?) with Mamut. And how Mamut has spent some time with Kreb and Issa's mothet (or grandmother?) While on his journey as a young man, and got to learn their ways. Also, there's a feeling in the air we're etching closer to discover Ayla's birth people.

- I also love how the author occasionally goes off on tangents describing the surrounding nature through the seasons, the cooking and hunting methods, it adds so much depth to the story and provides a must have basic knowledge to enjoy the goings- on thoroughly.

- That's a lot of pressure and she does experience a panic attack and we are reminded that even though she's seen as practically a wonder woman to the Mamutoi with her skill of invention, healing, hunting and horse riding - this is a young woman, barely seventeen, who has only ever experienced alienation and was being ridiculed by the only family she knew thus far. -

Jondalar's dark past is revealed - apparently falling in love with his Daani woman (basically a holy man- maker) and thus committing a faux pas.
Ayla is getting ready for her adoption ceremony by the Mamutoi is so exciting, even though it's bittersweet because she wouldn't venture too far away from her newly found people but Jondalar is keen on getting back to his people, the Zelandaani. -
