Of all the plaudits people rush to throw on Dickens’ classic why does no one mention just how funny is Great Expectations?? Pip’s mis adventurous plot skips along at a breezy pace. Dickens clearly had the time of his life punning away to his heart’s content, layered thick with misunderstandings and human follies. There is enormous heart and soul here too. Something missing from modern lit, if I’m honest. Fab!
