No particular night or morning - a lot of excerpts in this chapter made me feel quite introspective. Hitchcock's narrative reminded me a lot of George Berkeley's philosophy, "esse est percipi" or "to see is to be perceived". Putting those beliefs in such a commanding setting makes it extremely potent. First time in this book I have placed markers as well! Hope to finish this book tomorrow

Really resonated with the highway, what a visceral way to capture how transient dread can feel. It really reminded me of our current situation in the world. how one second you can know nothing about the situation, then the next discover a devastating truth. you become overwhelmed by dread. but the moment passes, and you feel kind of normal again. so captivating and effective.

current thoughts: loved the second short story “Kaleidoscope”, a really potent and beautiful vignette. i went into this book completely blind but im very satisfied so far, i wonder if there’s a story that ties it all together at the end or if its more just an anthology
