Moving day today. I'm moving from 12th to 24th floor of Centro, downtown Miami. Anyone near me? One big apartment to one small one, both with a lot of artificial flowers, signs saying 'happy life' and no bookshelves! That's airbnb for you. Still I have a view of the Mona Lisa mural and the sea and round the corner from Wholefoods, so I can sit at my computer and be happy I'm not on the island but in a city with life!

No, there are no chickens. BUT... Government Center is just a short walk from here and there is a small flock of feral chickens there. I walk that way to the supermarket sometimes just so as I can feed them.

Daily Happy Moving, friend! I will be in Naples area this summer for a few days vacation. I think that’s quite far though.

Naples is very far! I'm only in Miami for another month, then home to the Caribbean for a couple of months.

How about that?! I've seen the feral chickens in Key West, but never would've guessed there would be some in a big city like Miami. How cool, a little taste of home for you in your new environment! Now, you need a kitten....

That's quite far west! Bit far for a quick meet-up and a coffee.

There are chickens here and there in odd places in downtown Miami, often a rooster just strutting down the street. Cats are rare though there are a lot of dogs. There is a guy in his 30s here who takes one of his poodle/something mix out for a walk and puts the other in a baby sling on his front. Lots of people have prams for their dogs. It's very weird. My bf says they are practicing for a real baby.

Agreed. Prams should only be used if your dog is an invalid. We have clients who use them for their pets who have congestive heart failure. My friend at our practice used to carry her geriatric min pin in a sling, but he was blind and a little senile and couldn't walk anymore and had to use a little canine wheelchair when he was on the floor, and he used to get stuck in corners and just keep bumping into the wall until someone went to turn him around and save him.

That doesn't seem to apply in Miami. There is a lady here with three toy poodles who are all nicely dressed according to the weather. They do not walk anywhere but have a big pram. When they get to the park (which is about 5 minutes from here) they are allowed to run around without leashes. It's almost like taking toddlers to the park. She's probably broody! (To borrow from the hens).

Audrey A lot of people substitute dogs for babies, and it creeps me out.

There are advantages. Easier to toilet-train and you don't have to go through the nightmare of teaching them to brush their teeth.
