The Other Side is strange. It strikes me as something which has quite a few double meanings. Patera is either God or the Lord of this land, while the American is his opposite, the Devil or dissenter, but in truth, they are one and the same. The animals which destroy the city (yet have jobs like the Barbers assistant) strike me as the perception of a noble on immigrants, hence the wide variety of animals, like camels.
