“Maybe I could live my whole life this way, counterbalancing each lie against the next one, nothing ever falling.” This book is starting to feel like the series “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” except not funny.

There are snippets of great writing here (her strength is in one-liners), but on the whole this has a kind of g/Gross Literary Male energy that feels diminishing rather than expansive. For me, the best self-actualized women find themselves through breaking free; here (so far), I feel like I’m watching a woman confuse freedom with allowing herself to act as a certain type of man for whom consequences don’t exist.
