This book reminds me a lot of the Odd Thomas series - Quinn Quicksilver has the same "psychic magnetism" - and it's a pleasure to see the character meet a female companion, Bridget, to whom he is very much attracted, and that has the same abilities as he. They are accompanied by Bridget's grandfather, Sparky Rainking (a closet romance writer) and a German Shepherd they rescue from evil people and name Winston.
