There are so many events of Ukrainian history mentioned that is unfamiliar to me. Too many events. This present conflict is yet another battle in a long running war. It'd be relevant to read the full unbiased history. If for nothing else, to understand what has happened.

She's in the middle of the crowd. Crowd of people trying to escape the war. While she's trying to get back to the country. The words, the observations, the metaphors... I am not thinking too deeply of them, for they'll haunt me otherwise.

Mere 17% in and it's already hitting hard in terms of how people are reacting.

This is going to be a very difficult book for me to read. I can already tell. Unlike the book of Aleppo I read or the book set in Kabul that I'm postponing, I have been conscious of the full-scale war that erupted between Ukraine and Russia.
I want to make a bold statement like war is reality and I will not look away. But here's a more important truth. I'm scared. I'm scared of this book.

Have only made it to first line of the Part 1 and already feel chills. This is going to be a hard book to read.
