Central Europe's paranoia against invasion from all sides. (WestEuro,Hun,etc)
This fuels Charlemagne to establish the Holy Roman Empire.
Generations passed and the election system (seven electors made up of kings,dukes,etc) crowned Frederick III as emperor, which unintentionally led to a single ruling family for hundreds of years to come - The Habsburgs.
